Books we wanted to read, but could not find.

These are human-directed, AI-assisted books and literary experiments on intelligence, freedom, power and correction. The central thesis, direction, selection and final editorial responsibility belong to the human authors; AI is used as an instrument for research, drafting, criticism and exploration. The collection is produced within a research project that explores how AI can help create high-quality literature without replacing human judgement. That is why the books are free to read: we hope they will engage a wider community of readers, critics and collaborators. We make books because a point of view can be tested, consolidated and understood more deeply when it is given the space of a book rather than the speed of an opinion. Xerox PARC researcher Alan Kay, a pioneer of personal computing and object-oriented programming, is often credited with the saying: “A change of perspective is worth 80 IQ points.” The best books can make an unfamiliar idea click into place and leave the reader seeing more clearly.

These books also put forward a practical research claim: credible content can now be produced quickly, while validation, selection and discovery remain scarce. A central part of our future research programme is to help address that imbalance: to make it easier to examine, compare, correct and responsibly bring forward work that deserves attention.

None of these books is a one-shot output. Behind the published collection are many more attempts that were not strong enough to release; a single book may pass through dozens of versions, re-readings, objections and revisions. It is an intense, sometimes addictive process of returning to the text until an original idea becomes clear enough to stand on its own. The books are not yet perfect. Some have only just met our minimum threshold, but may still prove useful. If you share feedback, we will continue improving them; as our automated verification tools develop and new issues come to light, we will maintain the collection and publish better editions.
